My award-winning speculative fiction novel, Dreamer’s Island, https://www.amazon.com/Dreamers-Island is set in 2060 in a post-apocalyptic, post-earthquake San Francisco.

The book opens to a baby-hungry post-plague world except on the island–a future San Francisco–where Waverly Gray uses her position as gatekeeper and hotel concierge as well as hard-earned plague-gifts to search for her kidnapped daughter.

Black Dreams, Silver Linings is the first book of the Black Dream’s Series. The second book is Green Dreams and the third, in progress, is titled Strawberry Fields.

Dreamer’s Island was a Writer’s Digest 2011 Self-Published Awards Finalist as well as a USA 2011 Best Books Award Finalist in two categories.

In Dreamer’s Island Gretchen Hummel has created a rich, complex world that’s both beautiful and scary. Reading it, I found myself caught up in a lively and humorous community of artists, craftspeople, and dreamers–who are all too aware of the dangers that menace them from outside. I couldn’t put it down.”

Alison Baker, winner of three O. Henry Awards

“In Dreamer’s Island Gretchen Hummel brings to life a post-apocalyptic future with characters as believable as the folks next door and a tale as thought-provoking as it is entertaining. From the beginning I was gripped by Hummel’s ability to pull together science and imagined technology with myth and spirituality, a winning combination made even better by perfectly-timed bits of humor from the heroine’s Shakesphere-quoting bird. The result is an unforgettable story of a world divided by prejudice and loss, and of the brave few who search for answers in plague-induced dreams where they must confront their inner demons and face their deepest fears. The book is a page-turner from start to finish, one I would highly recommend even if you don’t consider yourself a science fiction/fantasy fan.”
